Local artist Myra Baumes is known for her charming Cincinnati neighborhood scenes. Although they often depict Cincinnati mainstays like The Blind Lemon and Mt. Adams Bar & Grill, as well as our city’s distinct skyline, her beautifully saturated urban scenes have universal appeal. Check out a sampling of her work in the slideshow! All of the pieces are available, framed, at our downtown location: 17 West Fourth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. Enjoy!
We are pleased to announce that Charley Harper is Juxtapoz Magazine’s Master of the Month for January. Head here to read Laura Hines’ beautifully written, in-depth article on one of our favorite artists.
Attention all Charley Harper fans! If you have ever wondered how great artists evolve from childhood novices into skilful, world-renowned professionals, then ‘Charley Harper: ABirds Eye View’ is for you. The DAAP Galleries, at the University of Cincinnati, in tandem with the Charley Harper Studio, has mounted this comprehensive retrospective exhibit of the late legend’s works. It will take you through every phase of his career, with the earliest pieces dating back to his West Virginia youth. Information for this must-see show is listed below.
“When I look at a wildlife or nature subject, I don’t see feathers in the wings, I just count the wings. I see exciting shapes, color combinations, patterns, textures, fascinating behavior and endless possibilities for making interesting pictures. I regard the picture as an ecosystem in which all the elements are interrelated, interdependent, perfectly balanced, without trimming or unutilized parts; and herein lies the lure of painting; in a world of chaos, the picture is one small rectangle in which the artist can create an ordered universe.”-Charley Harper
