Fabulous Frames & Art is a full-service custom-framing shop and art gallery, committed to providing our customers with the utmost in quality, selection, and service. Whether you’re looking to frame a painting, sports jersey, family photograph, or a concert poster, you can be confident that our expert design consultants will guide your project to a solution that is both aesthetically pleasing and archival. Today, we’d like to show you how we recently re-framed a customer’s painting to update the look!
The small painting is Vieux Lyon by acclaimed French painter Georges Damin. The original frame featured a linen liner with prominent stains and, for a painting that’s been appraised at approximately $1,000, we knew it deserved better than this!
Our customer came to us ready for an updated custom-framing solution, and we started the design process by removing the old frame.
Out of the thousands of moulding samples we stock, we began by picking out some warm silver options that complement the creamy tones in the painting.
The warm silver options seemed a bit bland, so our design consultant switched gears and pulled together a few dark wood options that pick up on the scene’s dark brown tones.
Our customer liked the above options but requested something with a bit more drama. We responded with a few choices combining the warm silver finish with distressed black wood in fairly traditional profiles.
In the end, our customer chose a wooden black frame with an inner accent in warm silver, for a look that’s traditional yet streamlined. The frame complements the tones in the painting perfectly, and it will also work well in our customer’s Modern home. Wow, what a difference a new picture frame makes!
What do you think of the transformation of this painting? In custom-framing, there isn’t a single right answer, but we think that we helped our customer come up with a great design solution.
